DustBusters Process of Wooden Floor Care


BEFORE: The wooden floor has all kinds of scratches and pits. Some areas will have discoloration. There will be cracks and separations between boards. Issues like cupping & crowning where the center of the board is uneven from the sides of the board.

Surface Preparation

The wooden floor is prepped up by scrapping the top layer of the floor or surface using s hand scrapper. Once the surface is scrapped properly and the top layer has been removed along with any stains or marks, the surface is vacuumed to remove any loose dust.

Sand-papering

To prepare the floor, we will use 60-grit sandpaper and finish with 100-grit sandpaper. In case of floors requirement more sanding, we will start with 36-grit and then 60 and 100.

Putty Filling

The dents and gaps in the surface will be filled with Asian Paints wood filler putty generously. The cracks are also treated with same filler.

Post Sand-papering

After the putty is applied any excess filler is wiped off and the edges of the cracks and gaps are sand-papered with 320-grit sandpaper to flush out the surface and ensure even-ness on the surface.

Color Polishing & Touch up

The floor will be polished using Woodtech PU Finish and apply gently and evenly on the floor with spray /or cloth depending on the surface requirements. The polish will be diluted and watery and will be applied more than once with half and hour to one hour intervals depending on how quickly the surface is dried. Light sanding will be done after each interval. This process is done till the floor has the desired color and has shine to it.

Sealing

For sealing, it is important to sand the surface lightly for the sealer to form a strong bond. For first coat, we use Woodtech PU sealer mixed with hardener and apply evenly. Once the coat is applied, the surface is left to dry for some hours. Then we will apply the second coat of PU Matt Sealer with water base. In between light sanding is required between first coat and second coat. After the second coat has been applied, the surface will give a glossy look and will repel any kind of liquid. Now, the floor is ready.

AFTER: The cracks and gaps have been filed evenly, the color has been restored, the gloss has been restored and the sealer will repel all kinds of stains.
